My 5-year-old niece loves to draw and experiment with different colours. She would use colouring pencils or paint to create drawings or pictures which she adores. One of pieces she completed, received a comment that she should colour within the lines.
My immediate question was why? (I mean she was just 3!!)
Yes, I know sometimes when colouring within the lines, we get beautiful imagery and the lines guide as to where to colour. But what about the times when we would like to go beyond those lines and see what else can be created?
Needless to say, this can be compared to our lives.
There are times when we do need those lines to guide us along our paths but not in every single circumstance these will be present. Sometimes we need to create beyond those lines or even traverse where there is nothing to use as a guide.
An example of this can be stepping out of our comfort zones. We already know what can be done when we stay in our comfort zones; behind those lines in our lives.
Imagine if we can step out in faith and boldness into areas that are unfamiliar to us yet, this gives us a new canvas to create something breathtaking and beautiful.
The image today, is a drawing that my lovely niece did. I simply love it.
To some it may look like an amalgamation of colours but to me it is absolutely beautiful.
She initially started drawing and painting in what was already predetermined but she decided to go beyond and create something that she is so proud of. Although small it boosted her confidence to try different things. Seeing her light up at something she created, made me a proud auntie (love my lil munchkins!) and also served as a purposeful reminder that sometimes stepping out of my comfort zone is a great thing.
It CAN be a wonderful thing.
What can be created, or the possibilities of greatness will not unknown if we don't take that chance.
Are you ready to go beyond the lines in your life? Do not let fear or criticism result in you playing it safe.
"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7)
