My 5-year-old niece loves to draw and experiment with different colours. She would use colouring pencils or paint to create drawings or pictures which she adores. One of pieces she completed, received a comment that she should colour within the lines. My immediate question was why? (I mean she was just 3!!) Yes, I know sometimes when colouring within the lines, we get beautiful imagery and the lines guide as to where to colour. But what about the times when we would like to go beyond those lines and see what else can be created? Needless to say, this can be compared to our lives. There are times when we do need those lines to guide us along our paths but not in every single circumstance these will be present.
